CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY IN NIGERIA
The adoption was also made to reinforce Nigeria’s commitment
to Kyoto Protocol of which she is a signatory. This will translate to Nigeria
enforcing conservation standards in its use and exploration of energy, reducing
harmful emissions and other human induced atmospheric carbon emission to a
level that will prevent dangerous interface with the climate system. It’s a
tall ambition that I am happy and honoured to know my dear country is ready to
pursue.
Believe me the world ages faster with the effect of man’s
industry and his exploitation of energy for survival. The effect is what we see
in the rise of sea levels, flooding, extreme heat and other impending doom that
scientists cannot fully reveal. Depletion of the ozone layer and melting of the
arctic poles kills earth faster than any disease and Nigeria as a great supplier
of world’s carbon dioxide must keep eye on the future by saving energy today.
With this national policy, it is my wish that the new government will adopt aggressive approach in addressing the problems of climate change. Not only in the oil and gas industry but further in power industry, in afforestation, conservation and most importantly Research & Development. Our precious Earth needs nurturing and it is the duty of every Nigerian to see that this policy is effectively implemented.
Switch off your electricity when you are not in use of it.
Aside from the money saved in your pocket, a fish somewhere in the deep will
also get to keep his home by your act of charity.
Kindly join me in
congratulating the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the milestone.
Cheers!!!
