COP 21- A Reflection

COP 21- A WORLD AGENDA FOR CHANGE

I am happy to bring the year on the blog to a close by reflecting on Climate Change Conference held in Paris recently where world leaders converged to further the talks on global warming. Our very own President Buhari was in attendance, which underscored the importance of resolutions reached in the conference for a gas-flaring nation like Nigeria.

In the conference, Nigeria pledged to drastically cut down on its CO2 emission, setting year 2030 as the target to reach this  lofty goal. This is a dream that Nigeria has been pursuing for long but knowing President Buhari as a man of his words, I want to be hopeful that it won't be a pipe dream. More so, I recently read in the news that Federal Government had placed a ban on the importation of "I-Better-Pass-My-Neighbour" generators as a means of cutting down on the tonnes of CO2 released into the Nigerian space. If these measures can be sustained, Nigeria can become a honourable member of responsible nations of the world that cares about Nature and the future of Earth.

I must also comment on the appointment of HE Mr. Raji Fashola as the honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing .Going by his antecedent, I am looking forward to a vibrant power sector driven by favorable government policies and constructive oversight implementations. The Discos must gear up and work on building infrastructures that will serve the populace while the populace in turn must be ready to pay for the power (electricity) supplied to them. Like the Honourable Minister said, I expect a tariff regime that is reflective of the economic times we live now- conscionable, fair and cost reflective.

As a new year beckons, I urge us all to take a moment to remember to conserve energy in our everyday activities. Each time you save energy, you inculcate a culture of savings that will at the end make you a millionaire. This is fact that I want you to keep in mind as you celebrate Xmas and New Year.  See you in 2016.  Cheers!!!

CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY IN NIGERIA

CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY IN NIGERIA

What a magical news it was to hear that Nigerian Government has adopted the National Policy On Climate Change and Response Strategy (NPCC-RS) as a national framework to pursue the goals of climate change. It was a step in the right direction especially in the light of the recent environmental catastrophes witnessed in the country.
The adoption was also made to reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to Kyoto Protocol of which she is a signatory. This will translate to Nigeria enforcing conservation standards in its use and exploration of energy, reducing harmful emissions and other human induced atmospheric carbon emission to a level that will prevent dangerous interface with the climate system. It’s a tall ambition that I am happy and honoured to know my dear country is ready to pursue.
Believe me the world ages faster with the effect of man’s industry and his exploitation of energy for survival. The effect is what we see in the rise of sea levels, flooding, extreme heat and other impending doom that scientists cannot fully reveal. Depletion of the ozone layer and melting of the arctic poles kills earth faster than any disease and Nigeria as a great supplier of world’s carbon dioxide must keep eye on the future by saving energy today.
With this national policy, it is my wish that the new government will adopt aggressive approach in addressing the problems of climate change. Not only in the oil and gas industry but further in power industry, in afforestation, conservation and most importantly Research & Development. Our precious Earth needs nurturing and it is the duty of every Nigerian to see that this policy is effectively implemented.
Switch off your electricity when you are not in use of it. Aside from the money saved in your pocket, a fish somewhere in the deep will also get to keep his home by your act of charity.
Kindly join me in congratulating the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the milestone.

Cheers!!!

Hurricane In Cape Verde- A Wake Up Call

Hello Friends of the World.

Did you hear the news of the hurricane that affected Cape Verde last week? It was a historic Hurricane Fred that lashed out of the Atlantic to ravage a small island off the coast of West Africa. I watched it on the news and imagined what could happen if the harsh winds had veered off into the coast of Lagos. That's a disaster we daily pray to God not to witness.

Hurricane Fred was historic in that it would be the first hurricane to be seen on the island since 1892. Yes, the beautiful people of Cape Verde had lived in relative tranquility till the rise in sea level and melting of the arctic poles had brought her devastation down her shores. For those still in doubt about CLIMATE CHANGE and its deleterious effect on planet Earth, Hurricane Fred is your wake up call. Believe it or not, the green planet is being endangered by the effect of global warming and the little we can contribute to wound back the thread of decay would be great at the end.

Let's conserve energy and preserve the Earth. Technology is there to alleviate poverty, let's embrace it and use energy efficiently in Africa. I am excited that Nigerian Energy Support Program (NESP) will be hosting capacity building for ISO 50001's  integration into Nigerian energy policy in a few days and Zeus Energy Limited is very proud to associate with this great initiative. We warmly welcome the team from GFA who will be conducting the capacity building in partnership with GIZ to Nigeria and wish them a successful outing.

Nigeria is on the way to being fully energy efficient. Join the progressive train.

EnMS in Nigeria- Opening New Frontiers

I read in the news today a senior official from the power sector claiming trillions of Naira would be needed to bring constant electricity to Nigerians. Well he lied not. The fact is that cumulative neglect of power infrastructure in Nigeria for over 5 decades has left a huge gap that would take a lot of capital investment to make up for. But is that enough reason for despair or to have a defeatist outlook? I make bold to say NO!

My reason for taking this position is not naive or unrealistic. I know for a fact as an energy law expert, especially as a disciple of renewable energy, that there is enough energy for Nigerians to adopt and convert to productive use if only we are "smart" enough to tap from this illimitable energy. I am talking about nothing but the negawatt power plant that is readily available in the cloud for our use. Yes, I am talking about the Virtual Power Plant (VPP)- a 1000000 Negawatt Energy Bank trapped in space, waiting for our power engineers to explore.

Negawatt Power Plant will fast track the federal government's strive to provide constant electricity to Nigerians. We just have to take up the initiatives. Learning to adopt Energy Management System (EnMS) and its green regime of conservation practices will bring the nation into light because renewable energy is the way to go especially in Nigeria where there is deficiency in energy and the citizens are impatient to have constant electricity. Global initiatives like incorporating ISO 50001 into Nigerian energy sector is a step in the right direction and I am glad for the great work GIZ through Nigerian Energy Support Program (NESP) is doing to extend the frontiers of energy efficiency in Nigeria. The collaborative work between Germany, European Union and Nigeria in this regards is just on point I must say.

Zeus Energy Limited as a frontline energy management company is proud to associate with EnMS in Nigeria, contributing our own quota in the drive to electrify Africa and create sustainable energy for ourselves and the coming generation. If you haven't heard about EnMS then I implore you to read about it. It will change your life for good.

THE GREEN PRESIDENT

In Honour Of President Barack Obama

Of all the towering achievements of my brother in office as the 44th President of the United States of America, President Barack Obama stands taller than a giant with his indelible imprints in raising the bar on renewable energy in America, particularly his administration's investment in large scale Solar PV installation and raising energy efficiency standards. This shows the president as a man with caring heart who understands that earth, our precious earth needs to be conserved in order for the coming generations to enjoy from it and take a cue on conservation from us. It confirmed Obama as a green president.

Yes, President Barack Obama has achieved a lot since he assumed office in 2009. A man unlike no other, his vision for America took the distressed nation out of recession and unjust war and planted her on a firm foothold. I cannot fully recount what God has achieved through this extra ordinary man but what delights me most as an environmentalist is his stand on CLIMATE CHANGE. My President, with his executive power, stood up for conserving the planet and invested his faith in the redeeming quality of Nature. This will make his name ring resonantly through the ages,  remembered by generations to come as the President who loved Earth.

As he returns back to the States from a trip back home to Africa, I join my brothers at Zeus Energy Limited to wish the President and his entire entourage safe trip and join a billion other Africans to say God Bless Obama.
Be green.

#TEEP 2015-AFRICAPITALISM SEED SOWN IN NIGERIA

I am very happy and positively excited to share the good news of Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program (TEEP) which became concluded this last weekend with a boot camp for all the 1000 participants at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State. The program, which began 12 weeks ago featuring intensive business coaching online, culminated in the boot camp that had among its elite guests the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Prof Yemi Osibajo (SAN) and others who came to inspire African entrepreneurs.

Oh, you haven’t heard about TEEP? My bad. TEEP is simply Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program organised by the Nigerian billionaire philanthropist, Tony O. Elemulu,CON  to further his economic theoretical model for Africa’s prosperity aptly titled ‘Africapitalism’. It was conceived and nurtured by his foundation to sponsor 1000 African entrepreneurs on the path of success and excellence through critical mentoring and provision of $10, 000 USD as seed fund for each of the entrepreneur. My genius brother, Olakunle, applied for the program on behalf of Zeus Energy Limited and fortunately became enlisted with the inaugural class of 1000 Entrepreneurs pooled from all over Africa.

Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program (TEEP) 2015 edition was fantastic and classic. It was also historic being the first pan African venture to focus on entrepreneurs using an intensive business mentoring platform specially created for the program. This platform, which was both interactive and user friendly, allowed cross pollination of business ideas and became a strong reference point for business owners and even business savvy individuals. The few times I peeped into the program online forum, I was awed by the set up and the immense possibilities I never believed existed in Africa. You just have to give it to Tony O. Elumelu, CON for his vision and courage in bridging gaps and building virile and viable African entrepreneurs that can affect their generation and beyond.

At Covenant University, Ota where the boot camp held, it was an exciting and surreal feeling for me to see young (and old) African men and women gather together for the first time ever in economic unity, for Africa. The business innovations I heard left me speechless-from Agriculture to waste management to fashion to bespoke internet services to renewable energy e.t.c. I imagined how the forefathers of African unity like Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jnr, Obafemi Awolowo, Olufunmilayo Ransome Kuti, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and many others would feel in their graves. In heaven, they sure must all stand in giving a tall ovation to Tony O. Elumelu, CON for his vision for motherland, Africa. It was the dream of 500 years coming to pass. As a Negritudian, I was lost for words on Sunday to see the participants return to their home countries, waving happily to us at the Cafeteria as the airport shuttle left the campus, fulfilled and renewed to make Africa prosper-simply because a man had the courage to dream and execute his dream. May God bless The Tony Elumelu Foundation for giving Africa a reason to smile.

I look forward to seeing this program continued as the progenitor hoped, so that others with great business ideas in Nigeria, Burundi, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Togo, Cape Verde, Congo and all other African countries can again experience this sublime gesture and extend the frontiers of Africapitalism.
Kindly join me in spreading the word all over the world.

The Trouble With Tokunbo Electronics Products

The Other Side Of  Tokunbo Electronics

My post today will shed light on an issue that is common to Nigerian landscape- the importation and selling of second hand electronic products, otherwise called 'Tokunbo' products. These products are very popular with Nigerian consumers as you would find them gathered around their merchants, picking items like pressing irons, blenders, micro wave ovens, televisions, sound systems, e.t.c at very affordable prices.

Nigerian customers patronize these second hand products for a number of reasons. First, they are cheap compared to other established brands like Sony, Samsung, LG, Thermocool whose brand new products tend to be on the high side for Nigerians. For a fact, it is the 'comfortable' Nigerian consumer that can afford to go to an electronic store to buy a product direct from the stall. Even to encourage sales, some corporate workers are encouraged to pay by installment by these electronic stores. In the absence of better option, Nigerian consumers will resort to the second best-tokunbo products.

Another reason for this trend among Nigerians is the seeming reliability of these imported products. You would find an average 'tokunbo' product lasting better than even the brand new 'China' product. The durability and affordability of 'tokunbo' products make them very appealing to Nigerian consumers but there is a bad side to this popular trend which as an energy efficiency expert I am concerned about.

The bad side is that majority of tokunbo products sold in Nigeria and all over Africa are 'electronic waste' of European and America countries, useless in their countries of origin for their inefficiency and obsolescence. Many of these outdated products are not with energy efficiency standards that normalizes their consumption of electricity. Most of the tokunbo products are energy guzzlers that results in high electricity tariffs for their users, burdening the already over-stressed energy  supply in the nation.

It is my hope that the Federal Government would do something to reduce the importation of these second hand products into the country. They constitute a great challenge to the economy and pose great risk to the nation's drive to achieving sustainable energy. So next time you decide to buy a tokunbo electronic product, think twice about it.

Take care.

AKON- THE LIGHT BEARER

Hello Friends of Earth,

It's been a while since I was here to share the green ideas with y'all. Well, I have been up and about trying to light up Africa. And in the same spirit of negawatt revolution will I today extol the good works of my brother from another mother-AKON.
I am sure an average reader of my blog has heard the fantastic news about how Akon intends to invest massively in Solar Electrification for African villages. When I heard it weeks back, I just exhaled and enthused in the good news. Who would ever imagine that Akon would be a Light Bearer in Africa?
The good gesture of the international music star is founded in his deep concern for the common people of Africa, the village people, who cannot afford the luxury of simple electricity in their mud houses. These good folks mostly rely on hurricane lantern or local lamp or candle to give them light in the dark of African nights. Many health complications arise from the use of these crude means to achieve illumination, asides the high cost implications of maintaining these backward light-generators.
More pertinently, the intrinsic value that science and technology adds to life, which for long has been denied the good people of African villages, can now be enjoyed when these folks have their houses powered by solar energy. They can have a well lighted house at night, charge their phones, listen to their transistor radio and imagine they are in paradise. Oh yes! This is a commendable project by a heart that truly loves Africa and I am proud to associate with Akon on this landmark achievement. Akon is a good son of Mama Africa.
My hope as an environmentalist is to have this good gesture emulated and replicated by men of means of African origin who are yet to give back to the motherland. Africa needs help. Africa needs light. Africa needs you.
You can be the next Light Bearer to bring illumination to millions of houses still in darkness in Africa. All it takes is a step and Zeus will bring you up.

I join my brothers and sisters from the Horn of Africa to say “God Bless Akon”.

I urge you all to go and learn about his solar project. Green is the way to go!

PLANT A TREE IN SPACE

ZEUS ENERGY LIMITED invites you to partake in the Tree Planting Deed starting from 1st June, 2015 to the end of the year. We set up this deed as a means to generate awareness about the green house project, to reclaim ice in the Arctic pole and plant a tree in furtherance of climate change initiatives.
But do not worry too much about getting your hands soiled with loam or picking up earthworms. The Tree Planting Deed is not strictly speaking about gardening or agriculture. It is about planting tree in space. Yes, you can plant trees in space like Neil Armstrong planted the American flag on the Moon. It is not rocket science. In fact, it is so simple you’d want to plant your own special specie of tree on any planet you choose- Mars, Neptune, Saturn or even Pluto. So are you ready to be an environmental astronaut?
Good. Simply go online and buy your own copy of Efergy Media Standby Eliminator and then you can plant your own tree in space with it. How does this happen? By using Media Standby Eliminator by Efergy, you save energy formerly lost to energy suckers in the standby of your media appliances, also saving over 20 percent of your electricity charges along with it and in that way planting a virtual tree in space. That’s called a win-win bargain: saving money by saving energy.
So what are you waiting for? Go and get your own copy of MSE fast and start planting trees in the cloud. It is in the spirit of negawatt revolution and will be on till the end of the year. I already planted a Cedar of Lebanon in Venus with my MSE and as we speak it is growing foliage. What tree do you plan to plant in space?
For Nigerian readers, you can cop your own MSE on Konga.com or if you live in the elite cosmos of Victoria Island of Lasgidi, you can get a discounted copy at Try & Carry Electronic Stores off Adetokunbo Ademola Street.
We have a prize for the best tree planter of tree in space called Neil Armstrong Space Tree Award with a mouth-watering Efergy package attached.

Go and get your MSE. Plant a tree in space

BETWEEN POWER AND ENERGY

My blog post for today is to enlighten you about the mystery of Physics called Power and Energy. These two terms, which we hear everyday yet know next to nothing about, are, as I learnt, the "spirit" behind a well lighted city so in curiosity I asked my brother who is an Electrical Electronics Engineer to enlighten me so I can share with you.

According to him, Power is the storehouse of Energy. Perplexed, I said please explain. He continued that Power is like a static force (of electricity) which is capable of being productive when it is released as Energy. It is like a sea of electricity which is quickened when it flows in channels of waters to its point of use. In other words, Power is static while energy is dynamic. It is why Power is measured in Kilowatts (Kw) while Energy is measured in kilowatthour (Kwh), that is how much power is used within a stated period. They complement each other and are dependent on one another.Clarified now? I hope so.

So the translation to me is simply that for Africa to have energy to industrialize and modernize, Power must be provided by the stakeholders of development in Africa- governments, industrialists, international development partners and power scientists. Expedient measures and holistic Power agenda must be devised and vigourously pursued by African nations, complemented by massive investments in alternative/renewable energy. It is not enough to build power plants and hydro stations all over the continent, African leaders must be smart to harvest the immeasurable energy latent in the Sahara Sun that shines all year round.

As a new government kicks in by May 29 in Nigeria, it is the hope of ZEUS ENERGY LIMITED that the incoming government will toe the path of intellectual nations and invest in renewable energy as its being done all over advanced world. The path to sustainable development is in adopting green measures and in giving back to Nature.

RET is the way to go, Nigeria!!! I say again, let's go there.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

According to Genesis 1:14-19, on the fourth day God created the Sun and the Moon- two great lights to watch over the earth and give energy. In addition however, God gave embedded benefits inside the great ball of fire called the Sun and it was until recently that scientists were able to tap into this immense bank of energy to generate electricity- through Renewable Energy Technology (RET).
Renewable Energy Technology (RET), of which Solar PV System is one, is the new way to generate clean electricity to power homes, offices, churches, mosques, clinics and other small scale enterprises with minimal energy requirements. This system, which is simple to install and maintain, will make its owner dispense with the need to buy fuel for generators or pay electricity charges ever again because solar energy is free.
It will also reduce in tonnes CO2 that generators and thermal energy stations could otherwise have released to the atmosphere, adding to the toxic build up that today endangers the planet. In one sentence, Solar PV System is the best and cleanest way to generate electricity in a world with climate change threat. It is the best model for building Virtual Power Plant (VPP), coupled with energy management initiatives.

In this line, ZEUS ENERGY LIMITED just executed a Solar PV installation for a client at Magodo GRA, in Lagos State. The Solar PV System is intended to power the client’s SME outfit with appliances like two chest freezers, TV sets, lighting, fans, and phone charging hub connected to its system and it is designed to supply 24 hours electricity.
At its commissioning, our client was delighted for the energy solutions it proffered to him. He was especially happy to know that Solar PV System works, being a former unbeliever in RET and its immense valuable opportunities. Like he said, “It feels good to use God’s free sunlight energy”.
What I am sure must excite him beyond measure as a SME owner in Nigeria is the amount of money he would save by adopting green energy instead of investing money on generators. Just imagine not having to worry about things like fuel availability or scarcity or electricity bills while profit pours in like a deluge on your business. Imagine the prodigious amount of money you will save. That’s the way a smart entrepreneur who understands the economics of energy should think.
We urge you to take advantage of this great initiative and call on us to design a unique RET system for your business. True, the initial capital outlay for the project is comparatively high but the payback period makes it a worthwhile investment. I mean you will use the system for the next 25 years!
Asides, we might even devise a payment plan to fit your budget, just to make you enjoy Nature’s illimitable power.

Green is the way to go. Let’s go there!

Iroko Tree

Iroko Tree

In the deep dark forest
Where only the valiant
Of hunters dare thread
There you will find
An undisputed king-
The Great Iroko Tree

A tree so tall
As to touch the sky
A tree so thick
As to take an acre
A tree so fearsome
No animal dares climb it

I met one once
In my excursion
Inside the grove of Oshogbo
And stood in awe of it
Paying obeisance due to a king
Silent and resilient
Through a thousand years

PS: Do you know trees are the real protectors of our planet from green house gases.
Yes, they are. So let us protect them from extinction.

SMART CITIES IN AFRICA

Have you ever been to Las Vegas or ever had the sweet grace to see Paris at night? If you have then you will be able to visualise the picture I intend to paint. These are cities rightly called City of Light for their luminescence at night; a modern metropolis where life begins at 7pm, the whole city lighted up and alive. In Nigeria, the F.C.T and some parts of Lagos also have this magical panorama, the latter powered by newly installed IPP. While the work continues, I am anxious to see Las Vegas replicated in Lagos: when the dream of Lagos being a smart city finally evolves.

Mind you, the smartness of Lagos in this sense will not be measured by how much streetlights are on the roads or how many skyscrapers are lighted up by generators. Believe me, Gidi's smartness as a modern city will not be assessed by the numbers of schools or primary health centers powered by solar energy or how much water is available for her citizens to use. To me as an environmentalist, the smartness of Lagos State will be measured by her power of energy management because energy is scarce and should be smartly managed.

In this direction, Lagos must enhance her smartness with technology. Yes, technology in energy will ease the burden of management for those saddled with the responsibility and also make the eco system better. Through system upgrade, remote monitoring and control of power systems that regulates the streetlights and the solar energy systems, using Efergy smart meters and devices, Lagos State can be a step ahead of other governments in Africa and become a 21st Century Smart City. It is in the spirit of negawatt revolution: energy management and innovation and I am all for it.

You too can automate your home appliances with Efergy ego wifi socket and monitor/ control your energy needs with smart technology. These deluxe products are available on Konga.com for you to buy. Imagine being able to switch on/off your bedroom AC before you get home via your smart phone. That's the power of technology I am talking about. That's being smart.

CONSTANT ELECTRICITY IN AFRICA

The title of my post will sure interest a lot of readers from Africa, especially Nigeria where I live and where we pray for the miracle of constant electricity. This miracle, daily importuned from Zeus, god of lightning and sky (at least to the Greek) , is nothing short of a mirage for Africans who, asides from material poverty suffers greatly from energy poverty. If you live in Lagos, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and perhaps Kumasi, Soweto, then you will understand what it is to be deprived of electricity. Our brothers and sisters in Europe, Asia and America may not really understand.
From lighting your room, to watching your favorite TV show, to charging your phone to browse on the internet, to navigating a well lighted road at night, the need for electricity in Nigeria and Africa gets critical by the day. It is hard, very hard to still live in "darkness" in today's age when electricity can be generated from several sources. I cringe inside to still hear children scream "UP NEPA" in the hoods of Lagos whenever power is returned from its holders. It is sad, very sad that we still ration electricity in Nigeria in the 21st Century, when school children in China can generate electricity from the simplest elements. You just need not imagine how much Nigerians spend on fuel for generators. It is sheer wickedness on the poor people of the country.

What is the way forward? Can the new government deliver on its promises to power Nigeria and make her industrialize as all of us hope? Will President Elect General Muhammad Buhari take Nigeria further in the drive to become a power sufficient nation by year 2020? Like the great Bob Marley once sang: Time Will Tell.
In our drive to modernize Africa and alleviate energy poverty keenly felt in the ghettos, Zeus Energy Limited is working on innovative solutions to power SME's in the low scale areas of Nigeria. We are presently conducting energy audits and analysis of selected SME outlets, to know their total energy requirement in order to build bespoke energy units for them. This we intend to do in partnership with stakeholders in the energy industry and other development partners willing to work with Nigeria in achieving sustainable power. I will update you on the progress we are making on this project.
Constant electricity can be a reality in Africa. We need to believe it first.
See you soon.

LIGHT UP AFRICA!!!

VISION 20-20-20 in Nigeria, first trumpeted by late President Musa Yaradua, encapsulated the plan of 'Giant of Africa" towards attaining industrialized status by year 2020. Today, it remains but five years to Year 2020 yet the dream now seems like what it has been from day one-a dream without substance or a shred of realism.

What can our leaders do to bring Nigeria among this comity of elite nations, you'd ask me, short of going cap in hand to our Western allies to beg for assistance? The first and most overriding issue at stake is for the Nigerian government to fix her power sector, for without constant and sustainable electricity, then we should forget about becoming industrialized.

For those who knows, this is an ambitious project for a country presently running on less than 4000Mw; a country with explosive population and a nation touted to be the largest economy in Africa. True, the incumbent (outgoing) government has made commendable strides in this drive to reform the power sector and I can only hope the newly elected government will carry on from where they left the job and push it to completion. I am really counting on General Buhari on this. He made lofty promises in his manifesto. Please do not let us down.

Ask the power engineers and they will tell you there are ways to light up Nigeria and Africa that will not require building power plants. By adopting green attitude of energy conservation and management, then Nigeria can power her country with vast energy stored in the cloud- Yes, the Virtual Power Plant can light up Nigeria and Africa in general.

Replace every incandescent bulbs with energy saving bulb and together we can make Africa light up like Xmas Tree-that is the winning attitude of energy management. Perhaps if we can replace a million of these 60 watts bulbs within the next five years, then we can achieve VISION 20-20-20.

On that note, here is to wish the President-Elect, General Muhammad Buhari and his transition team a successful tenure where Nigerians will celebrate no more black out. I say Amen to that!!

Low Hanging Fruits

LOW HANGING FRUITS

I was listening to the Presidential Debate over the weekend and was very excited to hear one of the aspirants talk about energy conservation when asked what his plans were as regards attaining power sufficiency in Nigeria. Yes, there is no prospective Governor or President worth his salt in Nigeria or anywhere in Africa who should not know about energy conservation and efficiency. It is no rocket science. It is just a simple science of common sense whose widespread knowledge will bring out the brighter side of our continent.
The aspirant I was talking about talked about the attitudinal change that negawatt revolution is anchored on. He made an illustration that if we could replace an incandescent bulb of say 40 watts with energy saving bulbs of 5 watts, then we have saved 35 watts which could be shared with others in need of it. Simple science isn’t it? It will be a great advancement for African governments to adopt this policy and join us in building what we at Zeus Energy Limited call the Largest Virtual Power Plant in the world.
It is no fay dream. It is real. It is our mission to pluck all "low hanging fruits" in Nigeria. By replacing every incandescent bulb (low hanging fruit) with an energy saving bulb, then we can build power plants in the cloud that will supply Africa's energy need, giving us a brighter world electrified by ideas and the noble dream to build a sustainable ecosystem for coming generations. Join us in plucking every low hanging fruit you can. Together we can.
We wish every Nigerian a successful General Election and urge all patriotic Africans to support this fledgling democracy in our motherland, as we build a beautiful world that our children can be proud of.
Happy celebrations.

Energy Solutions In Nigeria

In Nigeria and all over Africa, we find, among other deficiencies afflicting the continent, energy problems to be very rampant and intractable. In our mission to build the largest virtual power plant in the world through energy management, we have realized that many buildings and establishments operate above their energy need, thereby contributing to the toxic build up of CO2 in the atmosphere and losing quantifiable moneys to energy wastage and redundancies.

If you visit the upscale parts of Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja where high rise buildings and luxury flats abound, you will find a lot of oversized generators set up to power all these edifices. You will find buildings with total energy load of 70 KVA arbitrarily using a generator with 200 KVA capacity and above, wasting precious energy and money, degrading our green world and reducing the lifespan of the generator.

Zeus Energy Limited, deploying our energy specialists to elite operators and facility managers of these modern buildings have gained a bit of traction in preaching the need for energy audit to these important stakeholders in the Negawatt Revolution, urging them to partner with us in adopting international best practices in environmental protection and sustainability.
We educate them about energy losses due to improper and arbitrary generator sizing and uninformed energy usage, working with them in building better and more profitable businesses and also reducing the effect of pollution on our green world.

For instance, we just consulted for Eko City Mall, providing smart metering solutions to all the elite occupiers of the shopping mall, tailored to their needs and customized for each customer. With these Efergy smart meters, there will be no more haggling or confusion about each customer's energy usage as its report is available in Excel or PDF format, integrated with wireless hub for seamless connectivity .
Do you experience energy challenges in your organisation? Is your generator working at optimum efficiency? Do you suspect diesel theft in your company's generator? Do you need a customized energy billing for your property's occupier's?  Do you have special energy needs? Talk to us and we will fashion out special solutions to your energy problems and challenges.
We will be waiting to hear from you.

The need for energy audit

Energy Audit and Sustainable Energy- Are they connected?

I was once asked if Nigeria can ever enjoy uninterrupted power supply. Believe me, if you have lived in Nigeria for as long as I have and witnessed the constant blackouts I have witnessed in my life time, then  you too will have a reason to doubt whether we can ever be self sufficient in energy production. But I believe we can.

First, the revolution began years ago, not yesterday. Starting from President Olusegun Obasanjo who laid down the original roadmap to energy sector reform and then continued by President Goodluck Jonathan who has made substantial investments in power sector and recorded laudable achievements, the strive already made in the power sector is enough to guarantee that electric power will be stable in Nigeria.

Again, recent developments in the power sector points in this self sufficiency direction. The declaration of TEM II, to take effect from February 1, 2015 represents Federal Government's resolve to jump start the power sector reform set to take Nigerians out of unceasing black out and set us on the path of unprecedented development.

In this direction, it is very essential for stakeholders in energy industry to conduct energy audit of the Nigerian populace to know EXACTLY the nation's energy need. I know for a fact that it is only Lagos State that has a verifiable energy audit report, undertaken by Lagos Electricity Board years ago. This laudable effort should be emulated by other states of the Federation, Utility companies, Transmission companies and other stakeholders in the power/ energy industry. It is in the spirit of Negawatt Revolution in Africa!

When we know how much energy is required to power Nigeria's Industrial revolution, then we can know for certain how to distribute, manage and innovate on our energy needs. Energy audit also helps organisations to cut costs on energy usage and it is in line with international best practices.

And in this regards, Zeus Energy Limited is ready to partner with interested stakeholders in conducting standard energy audit for the nation. We have done it before, having participated in Lagos State Energy Audit and are anxious to contribute our technical quota to Power Sector reform in Nigeria.

Do you have questions about energy audit or power sector reform in Nigeria? Feel free to ask me.

Save the trees, save the world

Save a tree, save the world.

What a noble aspiration! I remember years ago when I first began to be fascinated with the beauty of the world. It was purely magical. Walking deep into the bush beside our apartment, I would gape at the trees, the greenery and the birds. The images of teak and cassia trees and the tweets of sunbirds and oreoles still linger in my brain today.
Fast forward to the next 200 years, it is very possible my son's son might not have the opportunity to gape in wonder at nature as I did unless we all, of this generation, are ready to take a stand to protect and preserve the world for them. And we can do this simply by change in attitude.
Knowing each time you switch off your unused electrical appliance or take an energy conservation initiative, a tree is saved; the world of my generation can preserve the magic of yesterday's green world for the coming generation. I urge all my readers to take this message to heart and spread it.
We need to save energy in order to save the tree. We need to save the trees in order to save the world. Join Zeus Energy Limited as we continue to add to our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) counter, aiming with you to build it into the largest in the world via energy management. An ambitious project you think? But it is achievable!
See you soon.

The Miracle of Technology

The Miracle Of Technology

Negawatt Revolution in Africa is hinged on a lot of factors. First, the widespread knowledge of energy conservation ideas, like knowing five trees are saved each time we remember to switch off electrical appliances when they are on standby. This knowledge alone is the soul of negawatt revolution because change in behavior can only come when the imperative is loaded with value.

Another factor that can fast track negawatt revolution in Africa is technology. Innovations in renewable energy, battery technologies, energy monitor and control systems and other related techies goes more than a mile in futhering the milestone aspired towards in Negawatt Revolution in Africa. In this wise, Zeus Energy Limited as a stakeholder in Africa's drive towards sustainable energy in the continent partners with Efergy Technologies UK in delivering bespoke technological solutions to corporate organisations and government through their top range energy management systems.

As a testament to this synergy, Zeus Energy Limited successfully automated the interior lighting of the premier Lagos Energy Academy (LEA) located in Ikeja, Lagos State. With Efergy Ego smart socket, our energy specialists set up the academy's lighting to be remotely controlled- On The Go. With this socket/device, Lagos Energy Academy can monitor, control, manage, and customize its energy usage using latest technology (Internet of things).

We urge you all to spread the word about this milestone and encourage your friends and lovers to conserve energy at all times.

We wish you a green Valentine day's celebration

Negawatt-An Introduction!

A negawatt is a unit in watts of energy saved. It is the total sum of collective energy we save by adopting green attitudes in our day to day living. Have you ever taken a pause to reflect on how much we waste energy that is not even enough for us simply by our ignorance of energy management.

For instance, by simply switching off the TV when we leave the sitting room to the bedroom; or switching off the bedroom light when we return to the sitting room can generate 600000 negawatts-enough to power a city. A simple behavioral change is all it takes to conserve the planet and save it for the coming generations to enjoy.

Join Zeus Energy Limited, an energy management company located in Lagos, Nigeria in building the largest Virtual Power Plant (VPP) in the world. The journey has already begun. For each energy saving tip shared; each incandescent bulb replaced with energy saving bulb; for every standby appliance switched off, we add a negawatt to the VPP.

As exclusive distributor of Efergy energy saving systems, ranging from energy monitors, Standby Eliminator Footswitch, Media Standby Killer, Efergy Wifi Socket and many more; each day we add a unit of negawatt to the largest Virtual Power Plant.

Join us in spreading the message of energy conservation. Join us in the Negawatt Revolution.

See ya soon.
